WORKS
Works (English)
Ibrahim Fazlic (b. 1994) is a Norwegian-Bosnian playwright, director and actor. His works circle otherness and exclusion, held in ambivalence and grounded in a radical idea of mutual care. Interactive and immersive, they dissolve the line between stage and audience until each performance becomes a temporary society its participants inhabit together. All productions since 2018:
TORVALD (2024–2026)
Nora left – Torvald stayed. A divorced single father, banished by his grown children to the basement of the family villa, invites the audience to an opulently set table, where he is allowed to rant about contemporary society and the one-sided narrative of the divorce in which he was cast as the antagonist. The character becomes a defence speech of the middle-aged, white, cisgender, heterosexual man who sees himself – and is seen by others – as purely Norwegian. Developed with the Ibsen Scope scholarship; premiered at Grenland Friteater 2024, performed at Black Box teater, Tou Scene, Festspillene i Nord-Norge, Bergen Dramatikkfestival, Trøndelag Teater and Turteatern, Stockholm.
Actor: Harald Kolaas. Space/co-performer: Eilif Fjeld Teisbo. Text and direction: Ibrahim Fazlic.

Mamma Masochist (2022)
Dear little one – come down into Mummy’s basement. Fazlic, a childless cis man, assumes the role of the audience’s mother and moves freely within the dogmas and narratives of motherhood – while a cis female actor of his own mother’s age sits bound and gagged on stage. Somewhere between a BDSM dungeon and a birthing ward, the piece explores co-dependency, infantilisation and expected adoration, and the dominant Mother Masochist who narrates martyrdom and pain in order to rule. The process in which Fazlic truly became acquainted with the performative potential of BDSM principles: consent is paramount, and a space made safe enough that we dare to become unsafe.
Performers: Anne E. Kokkin and Ibrahim Fazlic. Composer: Julian Skar. Dramaturg: Per Ananiassen. Light/visual design: Eirik Brenne Torsethaugen. Set/costume: Jenny Hilmo Teig. Producer: Mari Moe Krysinska. Co-producers: Black Box teater, Grenland Friteater, Rosendal Teater, Festspillene i Nord-Norge.

The Tingly Room (2021)
A stage-text sound installation commissioned by Kunsthall Trondheim for the international exhibition Sex Ecologies. The audience is drawn into a latex-covered darkroom and an ASMR sound work in which a dominatrix microplastic siren calls the listener back to the seabed to rot.
Johnny Johnson and the Boi (2020)
When an English guest performance of prty lyf at Vårscenefest and IETM Tromsø was cancelled by the pandemic, Fazlic created an entirely new work instead: he invited Kate Pendry and her character Johnny Johnson into a collaboration with Sad Boi, the character from prty lyf. Two alter egos crash-land in a live broadcast from Vega Scene, Oslo, and reflect on the state of things – an “intergenderational” conversation between two high-frequency people meeting each other and their own mirror image.
Text, concept and performance: Kate Pendry and Ibrahim Fazlic.
“The highlight of the screen festival for me … I want more!” – Willy Walder, Norsk Shakespearetidsskrift
A Muslim Afro-Joik in Swedish in Norway (2019)
En Muslimsk Afro-Joik på Svensk i Norge. Created as Young Artist of the Year at Festspillene i Nord-Norge. For an hour and a half, four minority monsters stomp around a circus ring made of a vomited-up Norwegian flag – a friction-filled performance about the communities we create and who gets to belong to them, examining “the question of racism” head-on in a deliberately burlesque, caricatured register. For we are the Norwegian Muslim, African, Sámi and Swede.
Concept/direction: Ibrahim Fazlic. Performers: Stina Ravdna Lorås, Maria Agwumaro, Katja Brita Lindeberg, Ibrahim Fazlic. Dramaturg: Kate Pendry. Costume/set: Jenny Hilmo Teig. Composer: Natali Abrahamsen. Light/space: Svein Inge Nergaard. Producers: Rose Marie Aker, Ibrahim Fazlic. Co-producers: Festspillene i Nord-Norge, Dans i Trøndelag.

prty lyf (2018)
Come into my nightclub from hell. Fazlic’s breakthrough and first full-length solo performance: an intrusive and dirty investigation of partying as an outlet for a deep, alien depression. Through the dramaturgy of a party – from Vorspiel through Spiel into Nachspiel – the piece explores a Western entitlement to suffering in a global context, and gradually pushes the boundaries of what is allowed, seducing the audience into a shameless game.
Text, concept, performer: Ibrahim Fazlic. Set/media art: Martinus Suijkerbuijk. Lighting design: Anniken Arnøy. Dramaturg: Kristina Kjeldsberg. DJ: Pedro Sanmartín. Producer: Mari Moe Krysinska.
Premiere Teaterhuset Avant Garden, Trondheim 2018 · Rosendal Teater 2019 · SALT, Oslo 2021.

Kjære lille venn – kom inn i mammas kjeller.
